PSE Certification

PSE Certification - Levels

Applicants can gain certification in any number of Technical Areas. Note that an initial PSE Certification application must contain one of the core technical areas (Computional Structural Mechanics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Computational Electromagnetics or Multibody Dynamics). The number of Technical Areas that can be covered in a single certification interview is limited to 4, candidates applying for more than 4 Technical Areas will be required to attend multiple certification interviews

For each Technical Area, certification can be claimed at one of the following levels:

Entry Level 

Certification award based on the PSE application form

The Candidate:

  • is carrying out work using engineering analysis and simulation applicable to the technical area in which the candidate is seeking to gain certification;
  • is working in an industrial environment;
  • is being trained and mentored in the effective usage of engineering analysis and simulation tools;
  • should be able to work in a supervised capacity when provided with clear guidelines.

Standard Level 

Certification award based on PSE application form and interview

The Candidate:

  • has sufficient knowledge and comprehension of theory to employ available software tools in a safe and effective manner as specified by the standard Level competency statements found in the relevant technical areas of the PSE Competency Tracker;
  • is able to employ available software tools in a safe and effective manner and work independently, following a well-defined procedure without supervision;
  • is aware of their own limitations when faced with new or novel problems.
  • conducts appropriate verification and validation activities to ensure that the results of their analyses are fit for purpose.

Advanced Level 

Certification award based on PSE application form and interview

The Candidate:

  • has sufficient knowledge and comprehension of theory to employ available software tools in a safe and effective manner as specified by the standard & advanced level competence statements in the relevant Technical Areas of the PSE Competency Tracker;
  • conducts appropriate verification and validation activities to ensure that the results of their analyses are fit for purpose;
  • is able to work independently on a range of complex and novel tasks;
  • plans analysis strategies and validation studies;
  • is acknowledged as an expert;
  • is able to use their skills and expertise to mentor others.
